New Zealand needs a 21st. century streamlined  (Ready Reaction Force)  comprising of SAS style troops with delivery and attack helecoptors. We require (suitably armed) patrol boats to police our 200 mile economic zone We could consider expanding our TT force into an efficient home guard for emergency situations if/ as required We could welcome the USA into our ports, they could (carry out securty) in our greater pacific region backyard WE dont need and (CANT AFFORD) a conventional army with tanks and multi million dollar strike jets which are currently wasting away in a hanger somewhere. The jet debacle is still costing NZ taxpayer's millions of dollars If we were to commission (based upon the above principle) a taxpayer cost saving exercise (millions) could be saved, with the SURPLUS money contributing towards balancing our current deficit much earlier than expected
